Here are photos of the original Differential engine patented by James Atkinson in 1885 and exhibited at the Inventions Exhibition of that year. The photographs were generously donated by Hellmuth Kohler of Sheffield England and were taken by him at the Discovery Museum at Newcastle and are used here with his permission.
